"Our PTA
at Westbrook has succeeded in advocating for changes to
the snack menu. However, change is needed at the level
within MCPS, simply to be up to date with current
thinking and knowledge on childhood nutrition but also
to ensure the profitability of MCPS food services going
forward. At our school the majority bring food from home
because they don't like what is on offer."
- a parent from Westbrook Elementary School
"Please
introduce appealing and nutritious food in our school
cafeterias. At a number of schools in the county
students are allowed, even encouraged, to have lunch off
campus. This creates opportunities for truancy, drug
use, and other mischief. Our schools have cafeterias.
Let's make good use of them. If capacity is
insufficient, then allow vendors to sell good food at
food stands in the school or at least on campus."
- an MCPS parent
"Remove vending machines
all together from schools! Provide fresh foods instead
of pre-cooked/processed options. Thank you."
- a Takoma Park Elementary School Parent
